The dissertation examines economic and political dependence of Jordan on foreign aid and foreign direct investment (FDI) seeking to evaluate their role in the country’s foreign policy and the survival of the Hashemite dynasty. Literature is reviewed on the economy of Jordan, the conflict in the Middle East, the impact of foreign aid on Jordan, the factors shaping Jordan’s foreign policy, the relations between the Jordanian state and Palestinian nationalism, Arab oil wealth, etc. The study employs the methods of secondary research including quantitative analysis of statistic data related to the growth of FDI to Jordan over 1990-2009 and Jordan’s dependence on external aid from the UK and the USA. Conclusions are made about the causes of foreign aid and FDI, and their outcomes for Jordan.
