The dissertation addresses the problem of cyber crime seeking to define potential impacts of cyber attacks on Moscow web society. Literature is reviewed on the history and patterns of cyber crime, the issues of cyber crime in Russia, and the measures of dealing with cyber crime. The methodology of the research includes a questionnaire-based survey of Internet users in Moscow aimed to obtain information about their surfing habits and to identify the clusters of users’ knowledge about self-protection against cyber crime. Conclusions are made about the link between the users’ district of residence, computer literacy, knowledge of cyber crime legislation and the level of protection against the Internet attacks.
