The dissertation looks at the architectural tradition in China addressing the debate between criticality and post-criticality and analysing the use of tradition and culture-specific practice in two architects who worked in Beijing, i.e. Rem Koolhaas and Yung Ho Chang. Their building projects are examined in the context of globalisation, urbanisation, and Chinese traditions. Conclusions are made about the sensitivity of each architect to cultural, physical and economic features of the country.
