The paper looks at the Blur Building, a lake pavilion entirely enveloped in mist, constructed in New York by Diller Scofidio + Renfro in 2002. Philosophic approaches to architecture are discussed analysing sensual and aesthetic perceptions of architecture and the surreal effects of the Blur Building. A Freudian interpretation of the Blur Building is suggested arguing that it represents Freud’s death drive through the disintegration of the building itself.
