The dissertation investigates the impacts of the current economic crisis on small and medium sized enterprises (SME) in the housing development industry. The review of literature touches on the theory of environmental strategic analysis detailing the models of PEST, Porter's Five Forces, Ansoff's matrix, Porter's generic strategies, Bowman's clock, etc. The methodology of the research uses secondary data and primary data obtained from the interviews with the staff of four housing developers within Fife area in Scotland. Analysis of the companies is conducted along the lines of the earlier mentioned models. Conclusions are made about the damage of the credit crunch for Scottish housing developers.
