DATE:
2010
PRICE:

This paper reviews current literature on the subject areas of information systems (IS) used for Postal Mail Services. It first examines the topic of Geographical Information Systems (GIS), in order to identify how this can be used in postal services. The essay examines current literature on the travelling salesman problem as one of the key issues in developing mail delivery routes which use the resources of a postal service efficiently. The paper outlines some of the specific information systems that have been developed for use by postal services, and examines possible problems in the implementation of an IS for use by a postal service provider. The postal system in Angola is used as an example case study. There are two types of primary data collection both of which are qualitative and include behind-the scenes information about the operations of Angola Post, including information such as the funding available for development, any current systems that have been implemented and current problems faced by the postal service.
