The dissertation looks at the hazardous factors that might pose a threat to the success of an oil and gas project examining the gap between the theory and practices of risk management. Literature is reviewed on the common causes of oil and gas projects failure, the theory of project management and new product development, the definitions of risk, the methods of risk identification and assessment, the challenges of risk management in new products development, etc. The methods of the research are based on secondary data using Prince 2 methodology standard for project management in the UK. Conclusions are made about the importance of identifying potential risks, recommendations are suggested about the use of effective risk management methodologies in oil and gas projects.
