The paper looks at the nature of the oil industry highlighting uncertainties related to the industry and looking at two case studies, i.e. Exxon Mobil, the world’s largest hydrogen supplier, and British Petroleum (BP). Dependence of hydrogen production on oil associated with Exxon, and the problem of oil spills associated with BP are discussed. Analysis of both companies is conducted using Porter's Five Forces model.
