This dissertation examines the skills that are lacking in the UK manufacturing and engineering industries. The study aims to find out what skills are essential for the UK manufacturing and engineering industry, to explore which of the skills are lacking in the context of the UK manufacturing and engineering industry, to determine what measures may be taken at the organisational level and the governmental level in order to cope with this problem, and to provide valid recommendations for the HR departments on how the problem may be effectively solved. The review of literature examines topics including skill-related challenges for HRM, the skill gap, and the legal aspects relating to the skills gap. The methodology used is examined and outlined, and the study then analyses all of the data collected. Conclusions are made regarding recommendations.
