A dissertation to examine the causes of football supporters’ faithfulness to their teams in the United Kingdom. The research is undertaken by the use of questionnaire and interview data questions posed to participants, to examine the main themes arising out of support for a football team. The results were analysed using a coding theme to identify the main issues involved in determining fan faithfulness. Discussion is given analysing the results obtained here in relation to prior literature of the subject area. The dissertation identifies that the findings support previous studies on fan faithfulness, in that the main factors affecting support were the influence of family and friends, and the perceived benefits in a social context of individuals’ choosing to remain faithful to their particular team.
