The dissertation investigates the performance of the Nigerian banking industry before and during the global financial crises of 2007-2010. Literature is reviewed on the factors that determine banks' performance, the causes and effects of the global financial crisis, the evolution of the Nigerian banking industry, the response of the Nigerian financial authorities to the financial crisis, etc. The methodology of the research is based on the inductive approach to the analysis of secondary sources including financial analysis of the banks' ratios over the studied period. Conclusions are made about the effectiveness of pre-crisis reforms in Nigeria suggesting recommendations about better practices in the Nigerian banking sector.
