This paper aims to assess whether a two-engine jet (twinjet) is a viable aircraft compared to the three engine jet, in relation to transatlantic flights. The paper begins by discussing Extended-range Twin-engine Operational Performance Standards (ETOPS), the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), and Standard and Recommended Practice (SARP). This is followed by an examination of the assumptions regarding the success rates of twin engine jets. The characteristics of three and two engine jets are examined, and the paper concludes by assessing how viable it is to send a two engine jet on transatlantic flights.
