This piece of research draws on secondary data to examine the impact of the current financial crisis on the airline industry, with specific focus on British Airways and easyJet. The report in comparing the two cases highlights the relative effectiveness of the different airlines’ strategies. The quantitative analysis shows the scale of response through the use of a number of financial ratios and industry ratios, as well as an assessment of the cost structure of the airlines. The results show that low cost carriers such as easyJet have experienced less of a negative impact on their performance than full service carriers like British Airways.
