C/B/2663. Corporate Social Responsibility reporting: case study of British American Tobacco and Unilever

WORDS:

DATE:
2010
PRICE:

This report provides a comparison of two companies: British American Tobacco and Unilever and how these companies approach sustainability reporting. As Corporate Social Responsibility reporting (CSR) is supervised by the Global Reporting Initiative the two sustainability reports are compared and assessed against its standards. BAT and Unilever both produce consumer goods but while the former’s main product is cigarettes (traditionally a threat to the environment), the latter specialises in a wide range of goods from tea to shampoo and body wash (these products traditionally are not viewed as a big threat to environment). Since the produce of the companies have different impact on environment and health, the firms had to emphasise quite different points in their sustainability strategy.
