This dissertation examines the convergence issues of strategic management practices as a result of globalisation. The study aims to examine the effectiveness of management tools hired by the Western businesses such as in the US and the UK, examine the effectiveness of management tools hired by multinational enterprises in the Asian businesses environment, to survive and vice versa, develop an understanding of the motivational and influential factors behind the adaption of these tools, and to examine the underlying factors that affect the success and failure of such tools (such as respective national and organisational culture, leadership styles, human resource management practices etc.) The review of literature discusses a wide range of topics like globalisation, information communication technology, telecommunications, trade barriers, total quality management, the balanced scorecard, and world trade. The case study approach is used, looking at Toyota and Tata, two car manufacturers. The dissertation examines all of the case study results, and concludes by summarising all of the topics discussed.
