The dissertation examines the development of five Nepalese Banks, i.e. Nabil Bank, Laxmi Bank, Nepal Investment Bank, Everst Bank and Standard Chartered Bank Nepal. The literature review provides information on commercial banking with the focus on the Nepalese banks assessing their profitability and efficiency. The methods of the research are based on secondary data and the analysis of the banks’ financial ratios for 2005-2009. Conclusions are made about the financial performance of the five banks during the studied period.
