The paper critically analyzes two culture definition models, i.e. the Hofstede model and the GLOBE researchers' model. The models are compared, evaluated and applied to Eastern and Western cultures, namely, the culture of the USA and Japan in business context using examples of Sony and Toyota. The significance of the cultural differences is discussed highlighting the importance of cross-cultural awareness.
