The dissertation examines the strategies and practices of human resource development (HRD) in Shell UK and Saudi Arabian petrochemical company Sadaf. The background of both companies is described, literature is reviewed on the theory of HRD highlighting its importance in the knowledge-based economy and touching on the HRD practices of training and development. The methodology is based on the qualitative research of related secondary data. Conclusions are made about similarities and differences of HRD practices between Shell and Sadaf. Recommendations are suggested about organisational learning strategies within HRD framework.
