This dissertation focuses on corporate social responsibility (CSR) and organisational performance. The dissertation begins by introducing the topic and aims, and follows this with a description of CSR. The review of literature follows this and discusses the reasons for CSR, ethical egoism, utilitarianism, libertarianism, CSR and performance, global reporting initiative, and UN global Compact. Data is collected through case study analysis, using Shell and GE, two energy companies. CSR consists of four types of responsibilities, economic, legal, ethical, and philanthropic. Each of these four are analysed in reference to the two case studies.
