The dissertation seeks to explain the reasons behind a recent increase in foreign direct investment (FDI) presenting a case study of FDI in China. The review of literature touches on the current situation in the international economy and in China, the strategies of multinational corporations (MNC) towards China, FDI features, the theories of currency differential, portfolio diversification, market imperfections, etc. Political, economic and cultural risks of entering the Chinese market are identified, a case study of Qualcomm investment in China is conducted. Conclusions are made about the causes of failure in FDI evaluating China as investment destination.
