The dissertation addresses the issues of employee engagement and retention (EER) examining the measures that could be taken by UK organisations to fully engage with their workforce and ensure the retention of talented employees. Literature is reviewed on the impact of the workforce on the organisational performance, the link between employee performance and payment, the importance of tailoring EER programmes, the EER programmes currently used in the UK, the importance of knowing competitive actions taken by other players in EER, etc. The research methods are based on secondary data obtained from related academic literature, company reports, press articles, etc. Case studies are conducted of EER practices in Barclays Bank, British Petroleum (BP), Cadbury, Deutsche Bank, Dow Chemical, Nokia, Philip Morris International (PMI), Royal Dutch Shell, and Unilever. Conclusions are made about the actions taken by the studied organisations in developing EER initiatives, recommendations are suggested about the ways to engage employees, to maximise their talents and abilities, and to minimise their turnover.
