S/OM/77. Supply-chain management of Nike

WORDS:
2750
DATE:
2010
PRICE:
29.99 GBP

The paper defines supply-chain management with reference to Rushton and Walker's 2007 analysis – the movement of goods through the process of procurement, manufacturing, storage, distribution and disposal. Research into the operation of the supply chain is conducted using Nike as a case study, and a review of the company's logistical requirements (and problems) is considered – with reference to the views of Nike's US-based managers who have suggested that the European logistical arm needs to be centralised, and to the company's European managers who suggested badly-needed improvements to their infrastructure. The paper also considers retail and supplier-base issues, the nature and effectiveness of information systems, the impact on relationships with customers, and within the supplier chain itself as a result of its construction and operation.
