The paper considers the accounting methods (balanced scorecard, flexible budgeting and variance analysis for turnover targets and customer service) which could be used to identify the weaknesses and strengths of UK supermarket chain, WM Morrison Plc, and how such techniques can improve revenues and efficiencies across its stores. The paper suggests the implementation of better communications in relation to the flow of stock and stock levels in each store and warehouse, and a process of absorption costing – allowing the company to spread its overheads in a fair manner across all its stores. Flexible budgeting as a policy is also suggested.
