The paper looks at two multinational companies Crédit Lyonnais and HSBC that operate in different service industries, i.e. retail and finance discussing difficulties they have experienced in leading staff in environments with diverse cultural membership. Methods of developing multicultural characteristics and formulating training programmes for leaders are suggested drawing on Hofstede’s theory of cultural dimensions.
