The paper looks at the systems of information retrieval (IR) defining the term ‘information’, describing IR techniques used by Internet search engines, and addressing the degree of accuracy of their IR systems. The ways to measure the effectiveness and accuracy of an IR system are discussed including the methods of Recall and Precision. The background of Google is reviewed arguing the degree of accuracy, relevance and correctness of the information that can be retrieved using this search engine, and highlighting the disadvantages of Google.
