The dissertation looks into the strategies used by the UK largest energy supplier EDF Energy. An overview of the UK oil and gas industry and renewable energies sector is presented focusing on environment friendly approaches adopted by EDF group. Literature is reviewed on the theory of strategic management with regard to human resources, marketing, manufacturing, finance, research and development, internationalisation, nuclear acceptability, waste management, etc. The dissertation is based on the methods of secondary research. This paper discusses corporate strategy in the energy sector, and is split into two sections. The first section examines two energy providers Electricité de France (EDF) and E-ON. EDF is discussed in reference to ownership and high customer retention, whilst E-ON is discussed in terms of Green energy, retailing, and home energy services. The next section examines the merger between PowerGen and Midlands Electricity Plc. This dissertation aims to assess climate change and the way in which it has contributed to organisational change in the UK energy sector. The paper also examines corporate social responsibility using EDF energy as case study. The paper begins by providing an in depth background to the topic and is followed by the literature review. The review focuses on topics like risk, uncertainty, corporate social responsibility (CSR), the responsibility of the public, the responsibility of the government, the responsibility of scientists, and organisational change. The methodology sections states that the review of literature is the main form of data collection, and this chapter also discusses the limitations of the study. The dissertation then examines the EDF energy Annual reports which focus on 2004-2008. All of the findings are then examined in great detail. This proposal presents the research and plan for a dissertation based on climate change in the UK energy sector and uses EDF energy as a case study. The study aims to discuss the way in which the UK energy sector has had to change to adapt to climate change. The studies objectives are to investigate EDF climate change mitigation policies and their implementation, to Investigate why companies (EDF Energy) mitigate climate change in the energy sector, and how and why they report their environmental performance, to examine how integrated the climate change mitigation procedures are into the overall strategy and business plan of EDF Energy, and to evaluate the impact of Copenhagen Summit on the UK energy sector and EDF climate change policy. The theoretical background is provided, and the data will be collected via interviews and document analysis. The proposal concludes by presenting the plan for the research.
