This paper compares and contrasts EasyJet Vs. Ryanair, two of UK’s leading low cost airlines. It examines the environment in which the two airlines are operating with the help of the PESTEL analysis and then goes on to scrutinise the attractiveness and competitiveness of the airline industry that they are operating in, by using Porter’s Five Forces analysis. Two SWOT analyses is undertaken to highlight the companies’ strengths and weaknesses and to reveal any opportunities it can capitalise on and threats it may encounter in the process of further development. The author also carries out an analysis of the financial standing of the two companies through Profitability, Rate of Return, Liquidity, Gearing and Working Capital ratios for 2008-2009 financial years. The paper also provides analysis of share performance of both companies via Earnings per share ratio, Dividend per share, Dividend yield, Dividend Cover and Price Earnings Ratios to arrive at a conclusion on which company is the better of the two.
