The dissertation investigates the position of Dell Inc within the IT industry providing information about the company and their main competitors (IBM, HP and Apple), exploring the causes of Dell's decline and suggesting hypotheses to explain the situation in the software and IT services. Analysis of software, hardware and IT segments is performed using Porter's Five Forces model. Secondary and primary research is conducted using questionnaires and interviews with different groups of respondents. Conclusions are made about Dell's strategic drift and a necessary change of their business strategy to reverse the decline.
