The paper examines financial assessment approaches and their application in Culbarb Plc, a company that experienced a disappointing return on capital employed (ROCE). It is argued whether the ROCE approach is the best method of performance analysis. The benefits of more holistic approaches, i.e. the balanced scorecard, are considered.
