This dissertation examines the key factors that lead to success of FDI in the retail industry, using Carrefour as a case study. The paper introduces the background to the topic and identifies the aims, which are to provide theoretical grounding to the main models of FDI, to access the retail industry in terms of FDI, to reveal original findings of managers of Carrefour in one-to-one interviews, to discuss whether the findings agree with the reviewed literature, and to make final recommendations. The review of literature focuses on the FDI determining factors in host and donor economies and theoretical models of the FDI determinants, discussing theories like the ownership advantage theory and the neoclassical trade theory. The research methodology section is provided, and data is collected through case study analysis and through the use of surveys. The practical and ethical issues are highlighted, and the analysis section evaluates topics like FDI and corporate strategy at Carrefour and Success Factors of Foreign Investment at Carrefour.
