The dissertation investigates the use of cost control and cost reduction techniques at the post tender stage conducting a case study of the UK based contractor organisation Carillion. Literature is reviewed on the theory and practices of cost management, the nature of contract projects, the importance of cost control, the background of Carillion plc, the stages of the procurement process, the issues of cost control during the current recession, approaches to cost control frequently used by companies, etc. The methods of the research are based on the analysis of related secondary data and primary data collected form interviews with the company staff. Conclusions are made about the effects of the cost control measures introduced in Carillion including their impact on the productivity and morale of the employees. Recommendations are suggested about possible improvements of the existing cost control system at the post-tender stage.
