The paper looks at the role of employment relationships in the company’s success examining the concepts of employee relations and involvement (ER&I) with reference to the theory of human resource management (HRM). A case study is presented of poor ER&I in British Airways (BA) that resulted in the strike action. BA approaches are compared with the encouraging approaches to ER&I used in Toyota. The concepts of psychological contract and organisational leadership are explored with relation to ER&I.
