The dissertation looks at the phenomenon of globalisation and the importance of human resource management (HRM) in meeting globalisation challenges faced by organisations. Literature is reviewed on the theory of globalisation discussing its emergence and evolution, the factors that contribute to its development, the challenges posed to companies by the globalisation process, and the role of HRM in coping with these challenges. A case study of HRM practices in Barclays Bank is conducted exploring their motives for going global and investigating the practices of change management and performance management used by the bank. The methods of the research are based on secondary data and primary data obtained via a questionnaire distributed among Barclay’s employees to assess global HR practices of their company. Conclusions are made about the strengths and weaknesses of change management and performance management at Barclay’s Bank.
