The dissertation looks into the human resource management (HRM) practices in Barclays Bank used through the process of the bank’s global expansion. The review of literature touches on the phenomenon of globalisation, the factors contributing to its evolution, the impacts of globalisation on economies, the challenges of globalisation for companies, the theory of HRM and the role of HRM in meeting globalisation challenges. A study of HRM in Barclays Bank is conducted considering their motives for going global and the approaches to performance management and change management. The methods of the research combine deductive and inductive approaches, analysis is based on secondary data and primary data obtained from questionnaires aimed to identify whether human resource (HR) disciplines facilitate globalisation. Conclusions are made about the strengths and weaknesses of Barclay’s HR policies under globalisation and in the current conditions of the UK economy.
