The dissertation investigates whether UK financial institutions base their lending policy on corporate social responsibility (CSR). Literature is reviewed on the theory of CSR, the relationship between CSR and banks’ practices, the origins of the global financial crisis, CSR role in the post-crisis period, etc. A study is conducted of the link between CSR and lending policies of Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS), HSBC and Barclays Bank. The methodology is based on the qualitative analysis of secondary sources including annual reports of the banks. Conclusions are made about the difference in CSR relevance for the banks’ lending decisions.
