This dissertation discusses corporate social responsibility (CSR) in banks before and after the financial crisis. The study aims to understand the relevance of CSR in the banks image and functioning, to compare the CSR parameter of banks pre and post financial crisis, to understand if the financial crisis did effect the bank CSR during the crisis, to understand what the cost of implementing effective CSR is, and to understand how banks benefited from their CSR practices. The review of literature begins by defining CSR, and follows with a discussion regarding dimensions of CSR, outcomes of CSR, and criticism of CSR. This section also assesses The Co-operative Bank, HSBC, and the Bank of America. The paper then outlines the research methodology and the findings from the research are evaluated.
