The dissertation looks at the role of corporate social responsibility (CSR) in building company reputation with the focus on the retail sector. Literature is reviewed on the theory of CSR highlighting its advantages and disadvantages, explaining socially responsible business practices, etc. A case study of CSR policy in Primark is conducted discussing their unethical behaviour in India, its effect on the company business and the environmental impacts of “fast fashion”. CSR practices of Primark’s competitors are examined including Marks and Spencer (M&S) and George (ASDA). The methods of the research combine the analysis of secondary data and primary data obtained from questionnaires. Conclusions are made about the current CSR approaches used by Primark suggesting recommendations about the ways to improve their CSR strategy.
