S/OM/21. The impact of the Internet on Supply Chain Management - What are the likely future trends

Due to the emergence of Internet, the business world has also experienced a huge emergence of electronic markets during the recent years. These markets were, and are increasingly dealing with the amount of trillions of dollars. Moreover, companies which did not know each other before are suddenly communicating, buying and selling from each other. This situation is expected to lead to the obsolescence of older communication systems, as well as to new definitions of supply chain processes, relationships, and the like. This assignment paper critically highlights the impact that the Internet has had on Supply Chain Management (SCM) to date and explores the likely future trends.
