The purpose of this report is to analyze effectively the same type of four-stroke spark ignition engine that Otto invented. The analysis is simplified by stating that all given values and calculations made thereafter are based on the engine running at wide open throttle while assuming no pumping losses. The report includes a detailed description of the cycle and goes on to illustrate calculations of mean piston speed, energy input rate, pressure & temperature at all points on the Otto cycle, brake power, thermal efficiency, brake mean effective pressure and brake specific fuel consumption. All results are discussed in great detail, relating to assumptions made. Results are tabulated and plotted.
