This research examines the competitive situation in the aviation industry surrounding the rise of technology, and in particular e-commerce. It is concerned with investigating the strategies employed by low cost airlines and comparing them with full fare airlines. It can be concluded that despite the deployment of e-commerce by many of the major airlines in the world, low cost airlines have thrived in this climate, thus raising competitiveness within the industry. Meanwhile, their full service counterparts have struggled to compete effectively, due to chronic inefficiencies, which hamper their ability to compete effectively.
