This paper analyses the broader business environment in which BP plc operates, firstly by identifying the environmental factors that have influenced their operations during the last decade (PEST). Secondly, relevant insight was gained with respect to BP's competitive environment (Porter's Five Forces), quantifying their current market position, related to the state of the economy within the local fuel market. Thirdly, the company's key success factors were identified (SWOT) and ultimately all these aspects translate into the development of three possible scenarios (Scenario Planning), which the petroleum industry might face within the next five years.
