This paper analyses Sandvik's environment and determines what are the most critical factors/issues/elements in Sandvik's environment that will impact on decisions to gain greater synergies among the businesses. Porters model is used to break down the nature of the steel industry to show Sandvik's competitive environment within the industry. Sandvik while taking into account the external environment needs to align the internal elements to push for greater synergies, this is explored through concepts and models to create a clearer picture of what strategic opportunities may be implemented to gain greater synergies. Finally three strategies are outlined based on the analysis that will help Sandvik gain the desired synergies.
