The paper examines the development of town planning and social engineering in Britain from the 1950s onwards. The history of town planning in the country is reviewed discussing architectural genres, building materials, etc. The utopian-modernist design of Cumbernauld Town Centre, the high-rise Ronan Point and Edmonton in London are discussed.
