P/E/530. Dissertation. Collapse of convertibility regime in Argentina
(2005, 9 500 words)
The dissertation investigates the causes and consequences of the collapse of the convertibility regime in Argentina in 2001. An overview of the political-economic background of Argentina is provided covering the period between 1980 and 2000. Literature is reviewed on the theories of rational expectations, cognitive anomalies, overoptimistic behaviour, etc. Behavioural economics theories are applied to the Argentinean crisis discussing the influence of political institutions on the overoptimistic behaviour, the predictions of economic agents, the position of the Argentinean government, etc. Conclusions are made about the outcomes of the convertibility regime.
