The dissertation investigates the impact of the Internet on the movie industry conducting the study of consumer behaviour with regard to online movie piracy. An overview of the technological advances in world movie production is given. A review of literature on the theoretical underpinnings of the Internet movie piracy is provided including its legal and ethical issues, consumer behaviour, the pressures of the industry’s competitive environment (Porter’s five forces analysis), etc. A case study of BitTorrent (a client application for the torrent peer-to-peer file distribution protocol) is conducted using the quantitative method of primary data (questionnaires) analysis. Conclusions are made about the growing use of P2P services and the threats of illegal sites to movie studios.
