P/B/681. Transportation of toxic chemicals: risks and recommendations

The paper examines the risks of toxic materials’ transportation seeking to identify whether it is safer to transport hazardous chemicals by land or by water, by smaller or larger amounts. Potential accidents during the transportation of toxic cargoes, and their economic implications are outlined; the theory of risk is reviewed; the methods of the research are described. Conclusions are made on the basis of the analysis about the best transportation modes for various chemical substances.
