E/T/13. Dissertation. Evaluation of Istanbul as a global city

The dissertation aims to evaluate Istanbul, the capital of Turkey, as a global city. A review of literature is provided on the status of global cities, Istanbul’s advantages and disadvantages in historical, geographical, political and economic perspectives; the prospect of the EU membership for Turkey; the global cities of London, New York, Tokyo and Paris. Research methods include primary data collection through questionnaires using qualitative and quantitative analysis. Conclusions are made on the basis of the findings about the aspects of the cultural and business life of Istanbul, the issues of security, health care, infrastructure, population growth, transportation, earthquake problem, etc.
