The present paper reviews triple-bottom-line concept in relation to the issue of sustainable development which is the primary driver of the concept. Sustainable development involves a broad rethinking of society and its development in terms of interaction of various internal and external elements and the possible outcome of this interaction. The paper will review the way is incorporated into the philosophy of sustainable development of what kind of imperatives this concept introduce for various stakeholders of global tourism industry. The paper also seeks to define the drivers which push tour firms to adhere to the principles of this concept and the way it is implemented in the business practice of incumbent companies. Besides, the paper considers current critical implementation issues of triple-bottom-line concept in the context of tourism industry. It discusses the environmental complexity of the industry and "impossibility argument"
