The paper examines the methods used to critically evaluate personal development and professional youth work practice within a learning environment. The usefulness of portfolios and personal development plans are discussed looking at various tools, such as role-playing, that can be used in a learning situation to help develop communication skills needed for effective negotiation and constructive working with others.
